Metal SLM printing
first step
In the Selective Laser Melting method, the printer used for metal printing contains 2 metal powder chambers, one for supplying material and the other for printing. In each layer the printer applies a thin layer of metal powder from the supply chamber to the print chamber. The thickness of the layer is between 30-90 microns (only in Open Source, otherwise the height is fixed and limited). With the help of the laser, the cross-sectional shape of the layer is melted. Then a layer of powder enters and the laser works on a layer until the product is complete. Assuming it’s an SLM printer with Open Source only: the thickness of the layer defines the quality of the surface. The thinner the layer, the smoother the surface area and the higher the accuracy. But the printing time is longer. Unlike SLS, which the powder supports because of the light weight, in SLM all the metal powders are heavy in most cases, the maximum printing angle is 45 degrees. In addition, there is an option for a short overhang and a bridge up to 1 mm maximum. Advantages of the printing method SLM – Selective Laser Meltin
Complex designs are lighter in weight.
costs
The setup cost is significantly lower than all traditional methods or other metal printing methods such as DMLS – Direct metal laser sintering or ADAM – Atomic Diffusion Additive Manufacturing which require sintering which makes the process more expensive and in addition, there is a lot of shrinkage in the product which makes thin walls very difficult. The SLM method has a huge advantage of surface quality and planning ability over all metal printing methods by an electron beam such as: EBM – Electron Beam Melting or EBAM – Electron Beam Additive Manufacturing and more.
In conclusion:
If there is a need for SLM printing quantities of a wide variety of products in small quantities, then it is the most appropriate tool. Another case, when there is a product that cannot be produced using one of the traditional methods. In a product that requires high production quantities and without complexity, it is easier to produce it by casting or CNC. – For the full article on the difference between CNC and metal printing , click here . In a product that is easy to create and change the structure is easy and economical. Or adjust the process so that the production is fast and economical. Very soon we will have a Kurtz Ersa SLM printer in Israel. At the same time we are planning a conference with an expert from Kurtz Erza in Israel. If you are interested in outsourcing metal printing services, we will be happy to share with you the complete planning laws. – For a consultation on the subject, you can contact Moral – 050-8223065
